Deepika Singh aka Sandhya of ‘Diya Aur Baati Hum’ in mourning

Television industry recently lost a pro make-up artist – Bhupesh Singh – to death.

Actress Deepika Singh, who is currently essaying the part of Sandhya Rathi in Shashi Sumeet Mittal’s ‘Diya Aur Baati hum’, broke the news on Instagram. Deepika has been dolled-up by Bhupesh ever since she began her small screen journey. Even lately, Bhupesh’s masterstrokes worked magic in giving Deepika a pretty Bengali look for playing an undercover cop Sagarika Das. Deepika is extremely sad about the loss and Instagramed a picture of hers while getting ready for the shoot captioning it as: Everyday I used to tell Sufi Shaikh that "jaldii kar sufi warna bhupeshji ( S.P of S.S.P) aa jayenge or kahenge ki itna time lagaogey to gaon ka ticket katana padega ". Unbelievable, shocking. Missing you Bhupeshji. May you rest in peace.

Vaishali Thakkar to enter Diya Aur Baati Hum!

Star Plus Diya Aur Baati Hum is all set for more drama and will witness a few entries. After Aadesh Chaudhry the latest to join the gang is Vaishali Thakkar who was last seen playing the long suffering Damini, better known as Ammu in the series Uttaran.

Our source informs us, "Vaishali's character Manjari on Diya Aur Baati Hum is a grey and rigid character. She will be playing Amit Dolawat's mother and will be seen as a very strong Bengali woman. She will hate Sandhya who has entered the village and will make her life hell."

We contacted Vaishali who confirmed, "Yes I am entering the show. Its a cameo but a very strong character. Manjari will make Sandhya's (Deepika Singh) life hell by torturing her mentally and physically. Its something different which I have never played before on screen."

Vaishali Thakkar has already started shooting and her entry will soon be telecast.

Rati Pandey to enter 'Diya Aur Baati Hum'

Actress Rati Pandey, best known for her roles in shows like “Miley Jab Hum Tum” and “Hitler Didi”, will next be seen playing the new girl in Sooraj Rathi's (Anas Rashid) life in popular soap opera “Diya Aur Baati Hum”.

As the show has taken a three-month leap, where Sandhya (Deepika Singh) has been kidnapped by a terrorist group and Sooraj has become unstable, his mother Bhabho (Neelu Vaghela) believes that a new girl in his life will resolve the issue. Bhabho is getting a new girl, Lalima (Rati) in his life, read a statement.

Rati, who has been dating Anas for a while, used to visit many times on the set of the Star Plus show. So the production is considering her as their chemistry is looking good on TV.

Bhabho does Sandhya’s “shradhh” to erase all her memories; Sandhya gets abducted by Naxals!

Till now we saw Sandhya being considered as dead by her husband’s family after her charred body was returned by the police officers. The show takes a three-month-leap after that and Sandhya is shown hands-in-glove with Officer Bharat (Jiten Lalwani) hiding in a different land and planning to take forward Mission Mahabali. They decide to get amidst the Garjana Sangathan which is a gang of naxals to finish their terror in the region. As per Bharat’s directive, Sandhya reaches a temple located near the naxal hideout and pretends to be Himanshu’s fiancee Sagarika Das. Bharat and his team spreads the news about Sagarika’s arrival to the temple to offer prayers so that the naxals (Garjana Sangathan) get alert about her presence. The naxals hear from sources that the police will be soon questioning Sagarika to find out hidden facts she may be knowing. They decide to abduct Sagarika from the temple before the police could take her in its custody.

A trustworthy man called Chandu approaches Sandhya in disguise at the temple and causes mayhem in the temple. He picks Sandhya on his shoulder and carries her away to the naxal hideout.

On the other hand, Zakir (Neil Bhatt), who still does not know that Sandhya is alive, brings her medals and other honours bestowed on her by the government to the Rathis. He gets shocked to see Bhabho performing Sandhya’sshradhh by throwing away all things related to her. Bhabho throws Sandhya’s medals by calling her good for the country, never for the family. She expresses disgust for Sandhya’s loyalty towards her duty which left her family deprived for good. We also see Suraj in a state of shock due to Sandhya’s death and as a result behaving as if she is still alive. Mohit, who was chucked out of the house by Bhabho, has returned home and is living with Emily now. However, it is not clear whether or not he has made peace with her.

In the upcoming episode, we will see the members of Garjana Sangthan interrogating Sandhya by torturing her. To know how Sandhya deals with them, keep watching this space.

Story leaps are a part and parcel of any daily TV show. They add in more flavour to the story at crucial junctures and make it more interesting. In recent times, three popular daily series have taken considerable time leap. Here’s taking a quick look at those shows.

Saath Nibhana Saathiya: This is the first show on our list to have taken the story leap. These days, we could see Gopi trying to unite the Modi family after returning from the jail for 10 years. Ahem can’t let go off his bloated ego and wishes to marry Mansi even there are still vestiges of love for Gopi remaining in his heart. Kokila has given up her garish make-up and bossy attitude for the sake of fulfilling duties.

Diya Aur Baati Hum: The Rathis are living with a heavy heart after losing baby Vansh in a kidnapping incident that led to his death. There is a strong possibility that Vansh, who was considered dead before the leap, may turn out to be alive and kicking. It will be interesting to see how the development occurs.

Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai: Akshara and Naitik are living away from their loved ones for 10 years in South Africa and are waiting for just one call from their estranged loved one to return home. We are waiting to witness what incidents are in store in the upcoming episodes.

Sandhya resumes her duty; Bhabho pampers her pregnant bahu with yummy food!

In the latest episode, Sandhya restarts working after a brief sabbatical. Bhabho assures her that she will send home cooked food to her workplace during lunch hour. As Bhabho cooks the yummy halwa for Sandhya, Meenakshi eyes it hungrily and hopes to grab a bite of it. Bhabho makes certain that Meenakshi too gets a share of the delish preparation. However, when Meenakshi shows laziness in doing her simple daily chores, Bhabho mildly rebukes her by giving Sandhya’s example.

On the other hand, Suraj invites Vikram and Mohit to his sweets shop for a discussion over a cup of tea. He requests them to share their experience of the time when their wives were pregnant. Mohit and Vikram start banter by recalling those fond memories and counsel Suraj to look after Sandhya’s diet and other needs. They pull Suraj’s leg and enjoy the conversation.

While Bhabho goes away for some work, a man comes to drop home a box of raw mangoes purchased by Bhabhasa. He places his blue coloured tiffin box near the pink one packed by Bhabho for Sandhya. Meenakshi fails to notice when the man hurriedly picks up Sandhya’s tiffin and goes away. Suraj takes the blue tiffin box and leaves for Sandhya’s workplace.

Upon reaching Sandhya’s office place, Suraj offers her the lunch which she resists eating for a long while. Meanwhile, at the Rathi house, Bhabho learns about the exchange of tiffin boxes. She finds the man and corners him for eating her daughter-in-law’s lunch. The man offers his apology and defends himself saying that he was too hungry to check if it was his lunch or somebody else’s. Bhabho gets worried for Sandhya’s meal and gets thinking about what she would eat.

Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlaata Hai

A show about the day to day life of a family has done pretty well for itself given the fact that plot wise, there isn’t much there in it. The beauty lies in executing the simplicity of a family dealing with problems any family can relate with. No wonder, it is still one of the top three shows on Star Plus even after being on air since 2009!

Sasural Simar Ka

This show was launched way back in 2011 and is still ruling the charts as far as Colors channel is concerned. It is about two sisters marrying in the same family and lots of misunderstandings, confusions, plotting and planning. Somehow, all the supposed weak points are ignored by the fans and despite knowing that whatever is happening is an eye-wash, they still keep watching the show day after day, week after week, thoroughly enjoying the proceedings which are obviously full of drama and twists and turns required for such a daily soap.

Saath Nibhaana Saathiya

Talking of simplicity, this show has been an eye-catcher for the lead character, Gopi who has been portrayed as a simpleton, bordering on a dumb woman. But, the makers and the channel have made sure that the IQ level of the lead protagonist is never questionable. May be the simplicity has touched a nerve somewhere and that’s why the fans are loving show since 2010! Five long years and still going strong by being one of the top three shows on Star Plus is not a mean task.

Diya Aur Baati Hum

A real show celebrating womanhood in India and showcasing the multi-tasking a woman has to go through in Indian society, this show is winning the hearts of its audience since 2011. Also, the best thing about this show is how a husband supports his wife through thick and thin which is not a normal scenario in a typical Indian household. May be this is what is making all those housewives love the show even more!
